Secret Tip #5: Writing Articles To Entice Customers
We know that the most important element to any online marketing campaign is new, engaging, relevant content, but what many blogs lack is exactly that.
Poor English, useless information and spammy use of keywords are the fastest way to get your content ignored.
As an ex-journalist, my communication skills have come in very handy when coupled with a need to engage Google through SEO keywords and through engaging literature to grab new leads socially, and keep them reading, and ultimately, buying.
So here's my top 10 hints for successful blog writing:
Clear Vision: It's pointless to start writing without some direction. Aimless blogging on various topics that are remotely relevant won't help you establish credibility. Brainstorm your Blog titles/topics and have a good list - at least 50.
Timeliness: Relevance and Consistency are huge elements to blog writing. It's no good writing about something that happened 5 years ago. Keep it current. Also, maintain your intended rate of blogging. If you're committing to 5 blogs per week at the start, ensure you're still writing about the same three months down the track.
Research: Even if you (think you) are an expert in your field, chances are someone else may still be able to teach you something. Engage in Google searches, read up on popular forums and study Wikipedia to further boost your knowledge, and add ammo to your blogs.
Keywords: If you've got an SEO strategy in place, or you're wanting to increase the rank of your site for Google, it's important to use a good amount of keywords in your blog. Use them wisely and well... an average reader should not be able to pick up a spike of use in keywords in your blog. Keep it that way.
Links: Link to your other blogs, sections of your website, your contact page and your online Social accounts. This spreads the word about your presence faster than that of self-navigation.
Dynamic Content: Where possible, use YouTube videos and Images embedded in your blogs. This helps to engage readers further and helps to break up long-winded text.
Unique Angles: Do a search for your competitors and check out some of their blogs. It might be tempting to mimic their styles, but if you're aiming for their market, it's important you achieve individuality for your blogs.
Spread The Word: If you write your blog, there's only two ways someone will find it: if they're a regular reader or if they stumble across your site. Help people know what you've written by posting links to it everywhere: emails, Facebook, Twitter, other blogs, your Skype handle - everywhere you can.
Entice Comments: Ask your readers to respond to your blog. Many of the fears of open commenting are based around negative comments. Try to relax... Negative comments are usually constructive (unless they're spam, in which case you can delete them). Respond to every comment and ask everyone to subscribe to your feed.
Use RSS: RSS is short for Really Simple Syndication and it allows an interested user to subscribe to your feed, whereby they are notified immediately whenever you add a new blog, and they can read it in an RSS reader along with their other favourite subscriptions. You can go to www.feedburner.com to set one up.
If you keep to these 10, you're likely going to have a really engaging blog on your hands. Just remember to keep yourself motivated - because when you lose interest, so do your customers.

If I was a service business on the hunt for new clients
Service business have really come into their own these last few years. Unlike product-based businesses, service businesses rely on the skills of their team/workforce to achieve a desired outcome for a client.
Strongman Digital is one of those service-based businesses. So how does Strongman gain new prospects/leads, and exponentially gain traction in the marketplace to generate buzz and direct more qualified traffic to itself, and convert these to sales?
More importantly, how can you replicate some of these activities to benefit your own service business? Lets take a look:
Website: Here is your chance to convert anyone that comes across into a lead. Ensure your website's home page or landing page is continuously updated with timely and relevant content. Have a Blog Reel and a Twitter Feed to really bring that "now" element, and ensure any visitor can easily see/click your contact information.
Blog: Blogging is especially important. Not only does a blog give away free, tangible advice from you, the expert, it also provides you with ammo for your Social Media campaigns. As a bonus, Google loves new content, and your site will also benefit SEO-wise from a really well crafted, keyword-rich article.
Twitter: The most important thing here is NOT to sell. You want to Tweet about your new blog 20-30 times per day, and push a handful of Tweets towards your home page. Take some time and search the Twitter trends for topics that relate to your business, and then sift through the results to find and respond to those that may become a genuine lead.
Facebook Page: It's a great way to keep your current clients informed. If you can replicate that which you do to Twitter onto your Facebook Page, you'll easily generate 'related' leads to your current client base.
Linked In: Get your employees to each create a Linked In account and to add your Company name as their place of employment. Then, complete the Company profile to its full potential, and replicate your Tweets to the page.
YouTube: If you can, utilise video content on a daily basis and post it to YouTube. With 2 billion videos viewed per day, it won't be long before yours gets seen. Ensure you link back to your blog/site for each video.
iTunes: Convert your video to a Podcast and send it out for free. People love freebies, especially if they can learn something from it.
Flickr: If you can post images here frequently and include great tags, Google will find you more often.
Google Buzz: Feed everything you do to this. Google constantly displays Buzz links and results in searches.
Surveillance: Constantly monitor your engagements and respond immediately to any query, comment or referral. Running searches for potential leads can also prove beneficial.
These are quite simply the most basic things you can do to drive traffic to your website. Some key factors to success are with your blog content. It has to be non-salesy and genuinely offering information that others aren't providing. You blogs should be well written and point interested parties to your conversion page (or call to action page).
Your Twitter account should be regarded as the tool that tells the world - because it does. Ensure you're not duplicating Tweets and looking like spam, but instead, offer intrigue and always link to your content. Use a service like bit.ly to shorten the links and to disguise where you're sending the clicker to.
When you take time out to do surveillance on your accounts, you're actually prospecting for new clients. Listen to 'chatter' everywhere, on Google, Twitter, Facebook, and Linked In. They each have their own ways of showing you new leads. Google for example, allows you to enter search queries, which most often pulls up forums and discussion groups. Your Facebook friends are usually talking to others. This gives great insight to leads that are quite close by. Linked In allows you to answer industry-related questions. If you answer these on a regular basis, you'll generate interest from those asking the questions.
In the online world, competition is always fierce, but there are always methods to outdo your competitors, and that is by establishing yourself as the market leader... the way you do that is only by increasing your content and interactivity online. Once potential leads are convinced you're not spam, but a human, they'll instantly feel safer considering your company.

Market Your Business With No Budget At All
Sure, Adwords yields great immediate results, but wouldn't it be better if you set something up now, that could look after your business promotion for the future?
Lets look at something you have over your consumer - knowledge. Knowledge is the only barrier between the 'expert' and the 'punter'. So how could you get closer to the punter than your competitors? Sharing knowledge.
At first, it might sound strange, even a little scary, I mean, why would any business give away valuable information for free? It all comes down to the art of Social Sharing.
You see, when you put an ad up on Adwords for some good keywords for your industry, you've got a limited amount of words you can use to entice a clicker to come to your site, and even then, who knows how many are translating into buyers.
Socially, when you're constantly sending out information, free advice and responding to real-life related queries, you're quickly establishing a number of things. That you're an expert in the field, that you're trustworthy, and that you genuinely care.
But it also works for you in the background. SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) works on the basis of continuously submitting more content out into the world (amongst other things like link-building and creating an open gate for Google's crawlers), with some keyword-rich type, all leaning back towards you. When you perform SEO, you're telling Google that you should be ranked higher for the keywords you're constantly marketing.
SEO is great for QUANTIFIABLE traffic, but again, the conversion rates are unknown. That's why Strongman Digital provides services that infuse Social Media Commercialisation (SMC) with SEO, to increase the capacity in which to gain quantity, quality, and rank.
So in essence, it makes sense to try and establish dialogue with prospective customers online, and still let Google know you care. If you base your content around keyword-rich articles and submit it to your blogs (while your marketing them to the millions of article databases out there), you're already establishing a more relaxed atmosphere to serve information. Then, telling your market via Facebook Pages and Twitter, allows you to engage with the right consumers at any one time, meaning clicks you're getting on your site are cheaper than Adwords, and more targeted than SEO.
Listen out for those that are crying out for help... They're everywhere in Global Chatter: "I really need a new car"... "My credit card is driving me crazy" ... "Grr got my (whatever) bill again".
In more ways than one, these are potential customers. "I really need a new car" is an open invitation for car loans, insurance, salesmen, manufacturers etc to offer their advice. "My credit card is driving me crazy" could be an open invitation for a debt consolidation loan, financial advice, or even a way to generate a sale (they use their credit card a lot). "Grr got my (whatever) bill again" is definitely a way to offer that consumer alternatives to their current provider.
People love advice... and most people either: Ask their friends (Facebook), ask the community (Twitter), search for the answer (Google), or try to view some DIY footage (YouTube). So if you can master these spaces, you'll master your ability to generate new and recurring leads, and potentially create a buzz about your business within your industry, that could end up looking after itself.
Just remember, in today's connected world - it's the web users that are in control of your business image - so if you don't take charge, somebody else will.

Google Announces First Quarter 2010 Results
Google reported revenues of $6.77 billion for the quarter ended March 31, 2010, an increase of 23% compared to the first quarter of 2009. What does that mean? $515 Million a week or $73 million per day - every day including Sunday!!
So where does this river of money come from? Search mainly, yes, those people out there that are buying Google Adwords, you have contributed to this extraordinary river of gold that Google now experiences. A massive increase from last year and quite extraordinary when you consider that about 5 years ago it turned over a measley $500 million a quarter and about 9 years ago it turned over ZIP.
Has YouTube contributed? Most certainly. In fact, just last week, Google reported that YouTube was serving up TWO BILLION videos... PER DAY! That's 60 BILLION videos per month on average, meaning a few things... YouTube impression advertising works, and their cost of serving this data-hungry service would most certainly be offset (it would be in the millions per month).
So is it's model under threat? Yes and No.
It certainly has a lot of legs left yet and with a market cap of $157 Billion and a war chest of money to rival small countries (or at least Greece & Portugal's), it can certainly move and change it's model over time to react to the market and technology. With a price earnings ratio of an outstanding 22.5, the market clearly thinks the Google's dream run is a long way from over, but move and change it has to at the moment. Adwords (or search) is under threat from Facebook and to a lesser extent Twitter and Social Media generally.
Video sharing sites like Hulu and Funny Or Die are gaining followers fast, Google's Blogger is easily outshone in looks and popularity by the likes of Tumblr and Wordpress. Alternative Search Engines like Wowd and Topsy are powering their results by human web activity, not the Google Algorithm.
Who would have thought that within a very short period of time, Google could go from an unshakable juggernaut to being in direct firing line from the very developments it helped to grow (through search, that is), finding itself having to change its operations almost daily to remain relevant and current in line with digital demands.
What we're seeing is the 'Microsoftisation' of Google. Microsoft's dominance not that long ago put it on the firing line, with everyone like Apple and Google successfully eating into their market. Now, as Microsoft again establishes itself as an underdog, and teaming up with Facebook, it seeks to assert itself as a worthy contender from the number one spot.
Competition was never bad - but the struggle between these behemoths will most certainly be exciting. Now is a better time than ever to look to non-Google markets and establish a presence there for your business.

It's war! Battle Of The Giants Begins
It's a collision course: things are heating up in the Social/Referral Media world... We suddenly see three pillars jostling for power. The struggle between Apple and Adobe seems to have everyone in the world choosing sides, Google's dominance is being threatened by Facebook's search partnership with Bing (Microsoft). Currently as we see it:
Google/Adobe: Google is a monolith, owns YouTube, Blogger, Android and is on a buying-spree of literally hundreds of startups, now has a close partnership with Adobe since their heated differences with Apple was aired publicly.
Apple: Now stands alone, but quite strongly with its Mac, iTunes and iPhone/iPod/iPad success stories. With only its die-hard mass-market of consumers by its side and finding itself scrambling to re-instill confidence into its developer community, they face extreme competition from Google's Android (and soon, a Tablet), and today's iTunes competitor launch, as the products are released world wide (update: TechCrunch states that since Android launched in the US, Apple's downloads revenues have dropped 8 per cent)
Facebook/Bing: Facebook itself is a colossal entity. With memberships edging closer to 500 million, Facebook, the unchallenged champion of Social Networks, is looking for new battles, and it's heading straight for Google. Microsoft's Bing search engine made not so much as a dent into the search market on its release, but now with Facebook Search to be powered by Bing (and to a lesser extent, Yahoo), it means that Facebookers will no longer need to leave Facebook to do a 'Google'.
What this means commercially
When big players decide to take on each other, it becomes a very exciting time for business. On the one hand, we see opportunity born on a daily basis, new markets to dominate, new means to reach qualified leads... It relieves us of the need to rely on a monopolised system (like Adwords, or iTunes for example), and the competitive nature of the battle, means costs to perform/acquire business online are much easier to swallow than before. Choice is always good.
On the other hand, we see opportunity born for new business. For example, the launch of iTunes coincided with every-day developers having a crack at making millions from iPhone applications. Now with Google's Android, developers have a much more even playing field, and their not restricted by Apple's excessively severe applications policy. The preferential split of the touchscreen phone environment means that regardless of sides, you can still make money from both. For bricks and mortar businesses, extending your marketing/sales force to the online/handheld environment will now be more cost-effective than ever.
What this proves is that online war, is definitely not bad for business. If you would like to take advantage of this situation, let us know: http://ping.fm/IMMc1

Secret Tip #4: Linked In to Replace Your Phonebook?
This is my fourth "Secret" tip that most online marketers usually keep to themselves. I've already spoken about Twitter and the Lead Generation secret: http://ping.fm/AqEEQ
My last blog spoke about Lead Retention secrets of Facebook: http://ping.fm/SHeEB
This time around, I'm going to talk about the Linked In secret... How Linked In empowers your business networking and becomes a fully fledged, Little Black Book of professionals you can call on at your whim.
Firstly, we've all heard the saying, 'It's not what you know, it's who you know', so after the MySpace/Facebook craze, it wasn't going to be long before someone "businessed" up Social Media, and so Linked In stands today.
LinkedIn.com is a very official looking website with the sole purpose based around you and your immediate connections.
So after you've registered, you're invited to add everyone out of your email contacts list, and your workplace. From there, LinkedIn asks you to see who else you know, based on your current immediate connections.
Here's where the beauty lies. When one of your connections grows their networks, they in turn, end up empowering your network.
Traditionally, if there was some high-flying Director you always wanted to talk to, you'd have to wait either for chance, or know someone close to him to even send him an email.
With LinkedIn, you can type in any name, and see how many connection circles you are away from that person. So lets say you wanted to talk to John Smith of Smith & Co about the possibilities of working together on a project. You type his name into the search bar (and there would probably be a fair bit of John Smiths, so you might want to stick a suburb in too).
Once you've found your John Smith, LinkedIn tells you if any of your immediate connections know him, or if any of their connections know him. Then you actually have a referral path to go through. You send an email to your connection, asking him to introduce you to John Smith, or they might know John Smith's secretary, so you can be connected to him/her.
The greatest thing about LinkedIn is that there's no rubbish. LinkedIn has somehow managed to keep it professional. Business and career advancement is the flavour, and no one really does anything different.
A few great plugins also help to power your profile. Things like TripIt, which tells every single one of your connections where you're flying to, where they can engage with your once your there. There's a TypePad, which feeds your Blogs to your profile, and a nifty feature that allows you to update your status every time you utilise Twitter.
As a bonus, LinkedIn integrates beautifully with an iPhone, and synchronises your contacts with LinkedIn, meaning those really important contacts are easily accessible from your phone book, including a bit about who they are in the corporate world.
It is is breakthrough of network and knowledge that has allowed any LinkedIn user a more powerful, connected experience.
So get a profile on LinkedIn, your networks/contacts/business development will thank you for it.

If I was looking for a job
Here's one blog with a different perspective. Although Strongman Digital specialises in helping businesses of all sizes create a commercially viable online environment, we're not afraid to helping out the other side - the consumers.
So, looking for a job. Traditionally, you'd pick up a newspaper and flick through to the job ads, respond by phone and email, and hope for the best.
Then came websites like Seek.com.au, who took the job-searching market by storm, and to this day enjoy the healthiest market share of job-seekers.
For both of these methods, you're unlikely to come directly into contact with the management responsible for offering the job in the first place... and then came Social.
However, with the breakdown of barriers for every human being accessing the internet, getting that new job just got a whole lot easier.
Here's some places to find your next job:
Facebook: You've probably got one of these, and most likely, every single one of your friends has a job. Now, specific to what you do, it should be quite easy to get your friends to put in that good word for you with their own employer, or someone that they know that could potentially employ you.
Facebook Pages: A wealth of corporate presence lives here. Just type the name or industry of the types of jobs you're after and you should be presented with a huge list. Even if the Page isn't official, chances are that several of the members of that group know who you should get in contact with. Just ask them.
Twitter: Follow companies your interested in and keep your eyes out for your moment to pounce on the Twitterer. Twitter makes it easy to immediately communicate with a representative of that company. If it's a large enough company, you'll see a 'verified' badge on their account. That means their the real deal.
LinkedIn: If you don't already have a LinkedIn account, you've been left behind. LinkedIn allows you to engage with your immediate connections in your professional network, and to increase the size of your network by tapping into the connections of your connections. This means that an 'insider' to any company may only be one or two clicks away from you.
Newsboards: Most often, businesses publish online about their daily happenings. If you read into what they're saying hard enough, you're likely to create an opportunity yourself within that business. Then would be a good time to make contact.
By tapping into these main sources of information, you get the upper hand when it comes to getting that new job, directly from the horses mouth.
Some things that could help you get that position:
A personal website with a portfolio of work if applicable
A blog that portrays you as an expert in whatever field you may be in
YouTube footage of you that portrays you as an expert in whatever field you may be in
It would be a good idea to hide your personal Facebook page from the world if you've done anything questionable... as much as you might think it was a good idea at the time, most times, business management don't really share your sense of humour
The web is full of opportunity, you just need to look hard at the tools at your disposal.
Are you a business in need of skilled staff but having no success with traditional methods? We can help: http://ping.fm/jydan
