Traditional Marketing vs Trend Marketing

I'm surprised to hear some traditional marketers play down the importance and the power of emergent media. It's true, I hear about this all the time. Are these traditional marketers in the pool of unfamiliarity? Or do they fear for their jobs? I guess both.

Here's my arguments why Trend Marketing is here to stay. Traditional Marketers, I ask you to answer these questions and prove that Social Marketing is not effective.

Firstly, how much does is cost to advertise on TV? on Radio? Newspapers? Billboards?

If you were to advertise nationally, on TV, Radio, Newspapers and Billboards, how much would it cost you then? What is the prospective engagement?

Now, what is the cost of writing a blog? What is the potential reach?

What is the cost of posting a YouTube Video? How many hits do you think you would get?

What is the power of sending a Tweet? A Facebook post?

You see, Social Media, was created by the people, for the people, to keep traditional marketers and their hunger for fat cheques out. Social Media's power is that anything said or submitted is easily seen by the masses. Two billion as a matter of fact.

Can you marketing campaign claim that its potential audience is 2 billion? Can your marketing campaign claim that it cost $0? I thought not.

If you're one of these people that think Social Media is a passing fad - it might be time to open your eyes. It's like using an old brick Motorola around a bunch of iPhone users - sometimes it's time to grow up and accept the changes in the way we communicate.
