Can Your CV Do This?

Completely creative use of QR codes sets Victor Petit's resume apart from others - and lands him a job.

It all started with a one-page resume. Simple enough - but way too common.

Instead of fighting for attention with brilliant designs or a clever uncommon font, Victor Petit applied for a Digital Communications role by proving his creativity.

Fashioning a QR code onto a picture of his own face, the recipient of the CV would simply scan it and turn this static image into a moving and talking mouth.
QR CODE - Content-rich Resume from Victor petit on Vimeo.

Royal Wedding will be Tweetless

Westminster Abbey installing signal-jamming technology to keep the wedding, a wedding.

Members of the royal family have collaborated with police and security to introduce the systems which they hope will cut down on distractions during the ceremony.

The main concerns of the organisers were Twitter, photography, video recording and message and call ringtones.

Buckingham Palace is serious about removing the threat of Social Media, already dismissing a guard for calling Kate Middleton a "stuck up cow" and "posh bitch" on his Facebook page.

Political Correctness? How Big Brands are Saying F*ck You to Tradition

Political Correctness. The 'tasteful' core ingredient in financially sapping television campaigns.

Online, specifically YouTube and its comedy counterpart Funny Or Die, has changed all that and made producing and marketing videos so economically sound and viewerships equivalent to Powerball jackpots.

Normal, polished videos just don't cut it online, so brands, in an attempt to connect with the YouTube/Funny Or Die culture, have come up with some real gems.

These videos contain everything your favourite TV network won't ever let you watch. If you're easily offended, you're probably better off watching daytime television infomercials.

Does this convicted felon own 50% of Facebook? http://www.strongmandigital.com.au/2011/04/15/does-this-convicted-felon-own-50-of-facebook/

Does this convicted felon own 50% of Facebook?

Paul Ceglia is unknown, even unnanounced in The Social Network movie - but his current lawsuit could change all that.

Despite all the controversies with the Winklevoss twins and Eduardo Saverin, we all thought Facebook was undoubtedly Zuckerberg's.

However, a new lawsuit claiming a written contract and an exchanged $1,000 arises from a convicted conman named Paul Ceglia - and it actually looks quite credible.

The alleged contract between Mark Zuckerberg and Paul Ceglia is from the early days of 'the face book' project, and a request for funding to help Zuckerberg get 'Facebook' off the ground.

The contract also states that Ceglia was entitled to an extra 1% of ownership for each day that 'the face book' was not launched after an agreed launch date - potenitally 84% of Facebook today.

General Practitioners now have a chance at being paperless

Dr Crono is an iPad app developed to log and show everything a medical practitioner could ever need.

The App, which has only just been released into Beta testing mode, has been designed to sync with current medical software, meaning it could even do away with computers in the surgery.

Physicians can schedule/change appointments, write electronic prescriptions sent to any pharmacy, bill, take notes, record voice and translate to text, and perform interaction tests.

It also has the capacity to bring up x-rays and lab test results instantly - tagging them to a patient and saving them for later.

Although only released in the US for now, it brings a massive change to the medical industry's practices.

April 16 is now Foursquare Day

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg officially proclaims April 16th to be 'Foursquare Day'.

What started as a comical and off the cuff remark by a Foursquare user, has now escalated into a full-scale event of recognition.

Nate Bonilla Warford commented last year that because four-squared is 16, therefore 16/04 should be called Foursquare Day - and had no idea that it would actually be recognised.

The idea gained traction with Foursqure users and used Social Media channels to promote the event.

Case Study: Why Social Technology is Killing Retail

It used to all be about bricks and mortar - in fact - that was the only way could be taken seriously back only a few years.

Walking through one of Queensland's busiest shopping centre just last week, on a school holiday on 'late night' trade, I came to notice a trend that may scare traditional retailers (although they're probably aware of it already).

What I noticed is that traditional retailers haven't changed in years - but their customers have. Although there were plenty of people in the shopping centre, there was no one in the stores. In some I'd find 10 staff members and maybe two or so 'customers', a trend that was repeated through 80% of shops I looked into.

Coincidence? Probably not. I went to the http://abs.gov.au for their retail figures this year, and for the most part, since 2009, retail is on the downward turn from a flatline.

As suspected, food retailers like supermarkets are experiencing growth (people have to eat), but health awareness has left cafes, takeaway and restaurants suffering a severe drop in popularity:

What was really noticeable, was the downward trend in 'stuff you can get cheaper online', such as clothing, footwear and personal accessories:

Household goods were also at the mercy of a decline in consumer interests:

Overall, department stores are also feeling the strain:

So what does this mean? Can you blame it on the floods like everyone is trying to? Or should you be looking at the trends of the online world, specifically social technologies.

Group buying is a relatively new phenomenon, but already is a $63 million industry in Australia alone, and is projected to grow to $242 million this year - a tremendous growth for a relatively new technology for Australians. Who wouldn't want to save up to 90% on things?

eBay revenue stands at $9.1 billion per year and is growing at an average of 5% year on year - an already established online shopping behemoth.

With these tools and Google at everyone's side, it's not that people are buying less, it's that they're getting smarter. Researching, scanning barcodes with their iPhone Apps and finding the cheapest place to get the item - most of the time directly from the manufacturer or a global merchant.

Yes, it has become a global economy, where people rely on other people's technology to source things a cheap as possible. Where a small-time online store, or app developer, can generate millions in revenues just for empowering the citizens.

It's one of the main reasons why Amazon continues to grow, while Borders is bankrupt. Why Blockbuster is a dwindling giant of the last century, while Netflix owns the new release streaming market. Why Colorado group buckles under tremendous debt, while collective fashion trends spike astronomically online.

Anyone that doubts this hasn't seen the light. Or the site. Or the app.

Unbelievable New Mercedes, Loaded with Tablet Tech

The once boring A-class Mercedes Benz were reserved for the lower end Mercedes market, or those looking for an entry point to the luxury car market.

Perhaps now even the 'forgettable' A-class is now out of reach.

Mercedes-Benz have completely redesigned and flipped the new generation A-class to a level unmatched by any car manufacturer. This shows that even traditional technologies, like motor vehicles, cannot ignore the shift towards a more social, more handheld, more intuitive control.

The exterior styling resembles lines that are difficult to stop looking at... but what is even more unbelievable, on the inside, a tablet gives you full control of the vehicle.

Crying YouTube Kid Becomes Governor of New Jersey

A crying wish from a three-year old boy on YouTube is granted - for one day only.

Well that proves it. If you can't get your own way, just cry and it'll happen.

The 2009 video (http://ping.fm/DY5aY) shows Jesse Koczon as a three-year old, crying because he is too small to be a governor - and he was right at the time.

Two years later, Governor Chris Christie signed a proclamation appointing the boy, now five, an honorary governor of New Jersey.

His twin brother who also appeared in the video, was made honorary lieutenant governor.

"Damn Japan" Trends on Twitter as World Reacts to Aftershocks

Global Twitter reactions to the 7.1 magnitude quake contain mostly "damn" and "Japan".

Twitter's trending topics are formulated on an algorythm that finds topics talked about most based on volumes of keywords used together in Tweets.

So as news broke of Japan's next quake, the microblogging site went balistic with reactions from the public.

Although painting a grim picture, "Damn Japan" is the result of many tweets along the lines of "Damn, why doesn't mother nature leave Japan alone!", or "Damn, another earthquake for Japan".

Want Stock Market Success? Get Twitter

A study by a German PHD student finds that Twitter predicts the future of stocks.

Just when you think Twitter is just people spewing their 140 characters in an effort to get 'heard', comes a new bombshell.

The study from the Technical University of Munich, which analysed 250,000 tweets over a six-month period, found that an average return rate of 15% could be achieved by investors following stock market tweets.

Calling it a "legitimate source", Timm Sprenger announced a "striking co-ordination" between what Tweeting investors were saying, and what market analysts were finding.

The reTweeting process put further weight on these stock-related tweets (which use the company stock symbols to differentiate them from standard tweets), showing others support certain predictions over others.

Color: The Mobile Social Network That Makes Sense

What has been seen a great proximity-based innovation, has landed $41million in funding and is taking the US by storm.

Still not available in Australia, Color (that's the way the Americans spell it!) allows you to interact with those that you normally wouldn't interact with.

Imagine you're at a party, sitting around with your group of friends, while other groups of friends do the same. Using the Color app, you can take photos and videos, and that content is instantly visible by anyone within a close range to you, and their content is seen by you.

The people within your 'elastic' area, become connections, or people you have the potential to meet, based on the content they're sharing, and you can comment on every piece of content visible.

When you leave that party, you leave behind those potential connections, but he content is stored on your device forever, leaving nothing but memories.

Here's the video of how it works:

Gmail Motion April Fools Prank, Now A Reality

For some people, it just wasn't acceptable that Gmail announced a motion-sensitive way of gesturing with Gmail a few days ago.

The April Fools prank suggested gestures that you could use to interact with Gmail and send emails with a flick of the hands, using a regular webcam.

In the US, the guys at the Institute of Creative Technologies were seemingly upset by Google's little hoax, so they decided to do something about it.

They hooked up the Microsoft Kinect motion controller to their laptop, and programmed an application titled SLOOW, which stands for Software Library Optimising Obligatory Waving.

They also created an application called FAAST, which means Flexible Action and Articulated Skeleton Toolkit to control World of Warcraft.

Here's the video showcasing an outstanding leap forward in email technologies http://ping.fm/RBkT0

Faux Ads: This Is How You Viral

If anything speaks volumes in the corporate world, it's marketing success.

Some big companies are still too uptight to let their guard down, and thus, are frustrated with their lack of appeal online.

Disney/Pixar are well used to Social Media, and they don't promote their new movies in any 'normal' way.

Take this latest 60's rip-off car merchant video to market their new movie, Cars 2.

It contains a "poorly" produced, slimy video, with a 'secret' link to an unlisted YouTube clip, hidden within its footage (try 57 seconds in, where there is some perceived static). This shows some never seen before footage of Cars 2 (which at the time of writing, only had 300 viewers!)

Also, you get a nice surprise when calling the US number shown in the clip (try free with Google Talk).
