If you shorten and measure your domains with the popular bit.ly service, the end could be near.
The domain registry for popular .ly domains, NIC.ly, has siezed the domain vb.ly for what it calls a violation of Lybian Islamic Sharia Law, specifically, adult content.
The vb.ly service was launched as a URL shortener service for the adult industry, and were told in an email they were "promoting and illegal activity" before having their domain revoked.
Many are speculating that this move is to in fact take back control of .ly domains that are under four characters - meaning the ever-popular bit.ly and ow.ly services are in the firing line.
We'll keep you posted.
