The New Business Landscape, And Why You're Still Not There

Lets face it. The world has changed.

Gone are the days of traditional business, where the mega-large corporations dictated and influenced their own industries, leaving everyone underneath them clambering on top of each other to try and ride commercial opportunities. Those days are history.

Before, it was the large companies telling consumers what to do, what to buy, what to aspire to. Before, it was all about uber-millions being spent on TV, Radio and Billboard advertising. Those days are behind us too.

Today, it's the consumer who can make or break you. It's the small-business who can take your market away from you. It's back to democracy - the majority rules. That is what business in the Social Media age is.

You could spend billions building up a reputation, and product and whatever else it is that you do, but if your customers don't care, or don't unanimously agree to want you, you might as well have thrown that billion away. These days, it's all about transparency.

Transparency is the ability to show your customers that you're all humans, not a grey corporate box sitting behind a pretty marketing machine. Transparency is your ability to creatively engage the population, make them feel involved in the development of your business, and to own up to any and every error or lack of judgement your company makes.

That's because through transparency, you build trust. In business, without trust, you have nothing.

If you're not sitting up and paying attention to the change that has already happened around you, it might pay you to play along before your business becomes extinct (like many of the worlds old giants: Blockbuster, large news companies... etc)

After all, two-billion people all over the world talking to each other constantly, can't be wrong.
