The web is full of information. As a matter of fact, 14 million blogs and articles are submitted every hour to the web. 14 million.
With that much content, your content is not likely to see the light of day right? Wrong.
In its most elementary form content is great on the SEO side. Quality content not only "fattens" your website, it provides RSS subscribers with a daily 'reason' to visit your site.
Google and other search engines crawl your website every time it is updated - meaning more content = more crawls, and a greater opportunity to appear in search results and potential better ranks.
Quality content is more than just about Google these days though, content should be engaging so that humans want to click through, land and stay to read one or many of the pieces you're submitting to your site.
The more content, the more opportunities to trigger visits to your site - the more people are reading and the longer people are staying, means a better quality site overall.
Socially, you cannot market without content. It's impossible to simply market your home page and hope for conversions. Content allows you to quell mental arguments and convince eager spenders to take you seriously.
