Twitter: Lead Generation at it's very best.

For this post, I'll dive into the world of Twitter.com.

Twitter is is incredible tool, halfway between a full-blown blog and an SMS. Often referred to as micro-blogging, Twitter allows you to tell the world what's on your mind, or share your content virally, with a short burst of information.

As I write this, Twitter, in its fourth year of operation, is home to over 80+ million users, from celebrities, brands, to your modern-day punters. It is estimated that there are over 1 million Tweets blurted out daily.

Twitter allows you to 'follow' who you think is interesting, and in return, allows you to be followed back. It allows you to search the global Tweets for anyone who is talking about a topic you might be interested in, and for those who like it random, you can view what is being said right now by its userbase.

A vast array of applications have tapped into Twitter, making use of its open API (the bit of code they released to the public for any developer to plug into). This makes the Twitter experience that much more powerful, and allows you to constantly inform the world of your actions, doings, and content.

Commercially, Twitter is a brilliant Lead Generation tool. By consistently staying on topic to what your business is all about, you're increasing your chances in letting relevant qualified leads find you, your blog, and eventually, your site.

In essence, you become an 'expert' in the field, by offering tangible advice, and responding and commenting to those that are discussing your topic openly.

By maintaining a constant stream of Tweets over the span of 24 hours, you're in fact opening the gates to all timezones.

The very viral aspect of Twitter, becomes a dramatic traffic source for your content online, by what seems a 'flood' effect. The minute you tell the world about something you have, followed by a link, you could experience anywhere from 5 to 500 clicks to that link instantly. Such is the power of the Twitterverse.

Twitter can be manipulated to serve any public function with your company face providing it: Advice, Customer Service, Consumer Feedback, Open Forums, Marketing Platforms... the list goes on.
