Microsoft Profits, but Loses Billions on Web

Windows 7, Office 2010 and Xbox 360 have helped Microsoft to a quarterly revenue record of $16.2 billion.

In contrast, Microsoft's online division posted losses of over $560million, putting it on track to losing more than $2 billion per year at this rate.

Microsoft places big hopes in its partnership with Yahoo, which reported a growth in search market share, but is still yet to translate profitably.

The partnership involves a merger of Yahoo Advertisers to Microsoft's adCentre - which plans to increase the reach of all Pay Per Click ads for both services.

Windows 7 smartphones and the Microsoft Kinect motion controller for Xbox 360 will undoubtably carry the company through the holiday season.
